A message to the Legislature
I am an anomaly. I should not be here. You should never see me in a well-functioning democracy. Nor know that I even exist. But out of the shadows I am here. Some may have hostile intent for me. That I shall never perceive. But I am here all the same.
--Some Bunny
It's unfortunate to see our legislature with so many ivy-league graduates reduced to a feckless quagmire of mediocrity. I know that stung but it was for your own good. I need you on my level for a few minutes. Come with me.
Before we begin
I have no personal animosity toward any of our legislators, our judiciary, our judges, our president, or any of his cabinet. My personal interest is in preserving our democracy and the prosperity of our nation. If I criticize a position or policy please don't take it personally.
I have no personal animosity toward even the parties themselves, but I seek their end because they are bad for democracy. I would simply like this process to occur in a rational and controlled fashion.
The biggest threats I see to our Democracy right now
- Legislative Capture: Political parties chain our representatives to the will of a single party leader whom I did not elect. This is not acceptable.
- Uninformed populace: We need reliable news and information on demand to select legislators.
- Incompetent officials: An outcome from party-line voting
I'm from the general public and I'm here to help.
Political Parties must go
A plague on our Democracy and controversial from the moment they were enacted. Our Founding Fathers distrusted them and for good reason!
The DNC and GOP are corrupt
- They are completely entrenched inside of our democratic machine.
- They are unaccountable to the public.
- They rob your representatives of their agency.
- They are a huge lever for special interests.
- They encourage citizens to be hostile toward individuals who are not a member of that party.
- They amplify and empower extremists from the left and right.
- They encouraging hostility instead of cooperation.
- They will ruin us.
We must address these problems. My recommended solution is to yeet the political parties entirely and yes, I am aware that I just asked you to boil the ocean. If you can't handle it, we'll find people who can. It may not be as hard to unwind as you think.
All or Nothing
Get rid of both parties or neither of them.
Let each individual representative make their own decisions.
One-party states are how commies and dictators trick their people into thinking that they have agency. It doesn't fool them or anyone else nor would it work here.
A one-party state would likely end our republic and I will not be ruled by tyrants. If you have such ambitions I would recommend that you arrest me now. I'm not implying that anyone has such ambitions, but I would sleep better at night if we prevent this hazard. I can show you a better way.
The offer:
-Remove two political parties.
+Receive one stable democracy.
A new vision for our election process
This is my vision of the election process without political parties.
- Primaries: Of all candidates we select the top three across all candidates for run-off.
- Candidate Websites: We provide web sites for candidates that they build as they like organized by state
- Interview: Members of the appropriate house interview the run-off candidates on the public record. Let them be judged by their own words, not the words that anyone else assigns to them.
Voters on election day receive a link to election materials. At that link they will find:
- Recent reliable news
- The candidate websites
- The interview recordings with AI summary and transcript
- A link to vote online secured with the same technologies that we use to secure enterprise systems.
We can have a safe and better-educated public instead of two-party shenanigans. We get great legislators when our populace is accurately informed. I have ideas in the projects section.
News Organizations must deliver news and nothing else
News organizations hold great power in our democracy. We give them special access to uphold the duties of the Fourth Estate. We give their speech special consideration among the public because it's expected to be informative and factual.
When news outlets publish opinion instead of news, it creates an impression among the general public that this content was created under the same journalistic standards as their news content. The general public cannot tell the difference between news and opinion and this is how propaganda gets legitimized.
The Leviathan must act!
I ask that organizations only be recognized as news organizations if meet these requirements.
- The organization can commercially produce only news content.
- An organization with "News" in their name must produce only news.
- An organization that produces both news and propaganda must split into distinct entities (ie. Foo News, Foo Opinion)
- A news organization loses their designation if they violate these rules.
We cannot have opinion and low-quality information passed off as legitimate news. Propaganda is destroying our nation.
Projects to help with these problems
I humbly ask you to spend some of your valuable time to look through these projects. They can greatly help in your mission so long as you don't allow your gaggle of tech CEOs to derail them in an attempt to profit. They had their chance, now it's time to get an actual software engineer on the case. One that works in the public's best interest. CEOs are business people chained to the will of institutional investors. Any level of technical competency these gentlemen may have demonstrated in the past is long obsolete. They lack the technical competence to build modern systems.
Elon Musk
I can already hear your protests. Shut your pie hole. You not only lack the skill for modern software engineering, you don't know how ignorant you really are and that is dangerous. Stay out of my democracy.
Regardless of your opinions on them just know it was my pleasure to show them to you. I hope they excite you as much as they excite me.
Identity Service
An online identity provider to hold our identities and person information in trust. It proves that we and the people we interact with are legitimately who they say they are. It requires our individual approval to access our personal information rather than having to rely on dubious claims of Internet service providers. The IRS uses such a provider today.
- Greatly reduces fraud.
- Better online security for everyone everywhere.
- A privacy solution that's easy to implement and actually works.
- We can digitally sign the digital works that we create.
- Easily enforce restrictions (ie. 18+ age restriction)
- An electronic payment system that doesn't rip us off like Visa and Mastercard.
- Simple for providers and flexible. If you wanted to make a feedback form that can only be submitted by eligible voters in Virginia legislative district #1, you could build that and it wouldn't be very hard. It wouldn't even expose their names or addresses.
It would be the basis for an online voting system. It can be done more securely than any system we have in place today. It is more convenient for all of us and leads to much better outcomes. You parties will hate it but you know it's the right thing to do.
Homepage of the USA
Homepage of the USA A social media site and homepage for the US general public. It would be governed by a legislature elected from all US high schools.
- Safe for all ages
- Accurate news and information
- Free from propaganda
- Hands-on civics education
- Gives us a place to twiddle the knobs of democracy without the same risks.
- Test your legislative policies here.
Let our high-school students experience a democracy that functions normally, and help our nation in the process.
Strengthen democracy
I suspect that a mathematical solution to a perfect democracy exists. If I had more time I would have solved it because I'm kind of nerdy like that. I will continue this work in the background in the section but it is lower priority than other work I have. I suspect there are academics positioned to handle this better than I can.
In the meantime I think you can set up a committee that investigates and recommends solutions to problems we observe in the democratic process and investigate "error" conditions. I will talk about this in the projects section.
Healthcare Marketplace
The main problem I see is this: People need healthcare but lack the expertise to know if the right care is provided at a fair price so we need a broker.
Would it make sense to create a healthcare market? It would be a market where providers negotiate a rate for a procedure with medicare. This market rate is the published rate available to everyone. This is the rate anyone walking in off the street pays.
Then health insurance can just be... insurance, like it's meant to be. I would be surprised if cutting the middlemen out of most medical care transactions didn't save money.
The American Dream
I think the American Dream starts here: A person continuously working a full time job should earn enough money to buy a house, raise a family, and retire.
When people are in a comfortable financial situation then they have room to invent new things, or they can just enjoy family life, or enjoy hobbies. You do your thing I'll do my thing too. That's true freedom.
If you really want to see GDP grow, here's your roadmap.
Conclusion
TIP
The greatest weapons against propaganda are integrity, accountability, and transparency.
I think that the ways we the people are informed, select, and evaluate candidates is deeply flawed. Our current process focuses on scandal and voting against that, because it's the vast majority of information that is disseminated. It's unfortunate to see our fourth estate reduced to yellow journalism.
Paparazzi Politics: Political news brought to you by the ambulance chasers of the media world.
The results are devastating. It magnifies the voices of cargo cults on the left and right, and suppresses the will of the silent majority. We lose great legislators for petty reasons. It's not the right way to attract and retain the best talent.
When managing I had much better results when I didn't fire people for honest mistakes even really bad ones. They will have a week of work ahead analyzing and writing up what went wrong and fixing the root cause so it never happens again though. Mistakes made through malice must of course be punished severely. Our democracy cannot survive corrupt officials.
Rise or be forever fallen.
I hope that my work helps you in some way and thank you for your time. I do honestly appreciate it.
